DESTINATION 1: SANCTUARY OF TRUTH (Also called Wang Boran and Prasat Mai)
Address:
206/2, Moo5 Naklua 12 Naklua Rd.,
Banglamung Chonburi 20150 Thailand
There were 2 kind of tickets one was for just visiting "Sanctuary" which is 500bahts.One more was for different activities like Horse Carriage ride, Dolphin show, Thai dance and sword fighting demonstrations + "Sanctuary", which was 900bahts.
We decided to go with "Sanctuary" Only. Charges 1000Bahts for 2 of us.. After buying tickets we walked for 5 mins(OR you can opt other package which will take you near Sanctuary directly.) and reached an entrance leading down the wooden stairway of the hillside down to the Sanctuary.
Before climbing down, we took some snaps of Sanctuary. It is awesome Sanctuary built on sea shore.
As we climbed down to left we saw a Restaurant facing the sea. We were hungry & decided to eat first. Our first food in Thailand, Fried rice was very tasty.
We then walked towards sanctuary. Where we were given a small white helmet to avoid dust of wood, as "sanctuary of truth" is still under construction.
This project was initiated as an idea of Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981, and is scheduled to be completed in 2025.This Sanctuary is 105 meters (345 feet) high and covers an area more than 3200SqMtrs.Every inch is richly carved with images from the Buddhist and Hindu religions and mythologies of Cambodia, China, India and Thailand. We had great time watching them. According to the official website, its purpose is to use art and culture as “A reflection of the Ancient Vision of Earth, Ancient Knowledge, and Eastern Philosophy. Within this complex, visitors will understand Ancient Life, Human Responsibility, Basic Thought, Cycle of living, Life Relationship with Universe and Common Goal of Life toward Utopia”.
It was 3:15pm by time we finished lunch and came near Sanctuary. There was some activities going on.Some guides or agents mislead ed saying "Its closed" wanting us to participate in those activity.{{I knew well of this pranks as i had read more about this in various blogs/forums}}.
I told Ramesh to just ignore them, and we started walking round the Sanctuary instead of going in. It was scorching heat. I hesitated initially and walked holding an umbrella. After seeing some sculptures i could not resist but wrap umbrella and started clicking pictures. There was simply too many admirable sculptures, we both started taking snaps of those beautiful sculptures.
Lord Vishnu's vahana Garuda was seen on the top most of the roof. We saw lot of Hindu Gods carved beautifully.
After strolling round the Sanctuary we went inside the sanctuary to find more carvings inside. Even the roofs are beautifully carved. We also saw lot of young thai people busy with carving future sculptures.
We then visited a section where wood works was going on, i was amazed to see all this sculptures were mainly young girls. I posed doing a wood work, after getting permission :).It was around 4:30pm by then, and we decided to head to Mini Siam our next destination.
PS: This is an attempt to share my travel experience to friends/relatives, and for fellow travelers to help plan their trip. Feel free to leave your comments or queries if any...
